This role is designated as a supplemental duty and is assigned in addition to a teacher’s regular instructional responsibilities

 

 

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, procedures

Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules

Ability to instruct and supervise students

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate

Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (optional)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide instruction and leadership to the cheerleading squad in acrobatics, dance, and tumbling.
  2. Provide for cheerleading participation at extracurricular events, including football games, pep rallies, parades, fundraisers, UIL, and other events.
  3. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate.
  4. Oversee selection of cheerleaders; ensure process is transparent, fair, and equitable.
  5. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  6. Coordinate rehearsals, competitions, routines, and performances.
  7. Develop and administer the budget based on documented programs needs and ensure that operations are cost effective, and funds are managed wisely.
  8. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
  9. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all school district rules, polices, and procedures.
  10. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  11. Accompany and supervise students during meetings, competitions, performances, service projects, and on out-of-town trips.
  12. Arrange for transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  13. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  14. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [automated external defibrillator (AED)]

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching

Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with cheerleading activities

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional lifting or moving of equipment (15-44 pounds)

Environment: Work inside, outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise; regular districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
